KABA-SD Hosted Happy Hour for Screening of “Treeless Mountain”

May 25th, 2009 No comments

** KABA-SD just learned that the screenings for the movie have changed on Friday night.  The two screenings are now at 7:45 and 9:45.  As a result, we have pushed our Happy Hour back. Happy Hour will now start at 6 p.m. at Confidential so that we can attend the 7:45 screening.   Sorry for any inconvenience. **

Please join KABA-SD in supporting the San Diego Asian Film Foundation.

On Friday, May 29, 2009, KABA-SD will host drinks and tapas at Confidential, 901 4th Avenue, 6:00 p.m. from 5:00-6:30 p.m.

After the happy hour, we will attend the 7:45pm 7:00 p.m. screening of “Treeless Mountain” at the Reading Theaters Gaslamp, 701 5th Street.  Tickets are $5 for SDAFF members, $10 for students, and $11 for general admission.

“Treeless Mountain,”directed by So Yong Kim, is a beautiful and touching film about two young children who must fend for themselves after their mother abandons them to look for their father.  The film has won awards in international film festivals and has received critical acclaim.  Est. running time is 90 minutes.  See attached flyers for more information.

(If you can’t make the 7:45p.m. 7:00 p.m. screening, there will be a 9:45 p.m. 9:00p.m. screening as well.)

If you would like to attend this event, please R.S.V.P. to Christine Yoon Friedman by Tuesday, May 26, 2009.

Women’s Resource Fair – VOLUNTEER NOW!

February 18th, 2008 No comments

The Women’s Resource Fair is an annual event, sponsored by local area individuals and organizations. The one-day fair is designed to assist San Diego’s women in need, including homeless and battered women and children, by addressing their need for many basic services, which include medical assistance, services for their children, legal services, information regarding employment opportunities, along with counseling for battered women and assistance with public benefits. This year the Fair will be held at the San Diego Community Concourse on Saturday, March 1, 2008.

The Fair needs volunteers to help provide childcare. Last year, childcare was provided for over 150 children, ranging in age from one to twelve years of age. Volunteers are needed to work at the fair as runners, registrars and sitters. There are full day and half day shifts available from 8:00-4:00p.m., 8:00-12:00p.m., 10:00-2:00p.m., and 12:00-4:00p.m. Lunch and parking is provided for all volunteers. This fair is an amazing opportunity for the women who participate and the volunteers who make it happen.

KABA-SD is assembling a group of officers, board members, and KABA-SD members to volunteer. Please consider volunteering for this worthwhile event. It will be an opportunity to meet other KABA-SD members and contribute to a worthy cause. Please email KABA.SD@gmail.com by February 25, 2008 if you plan to join our group, and for which shift(s).
