KABA-SD Endorses Tim Nader for U.S. District Court for the Southern District of California and San Diego Superior Court

The KABA-SD Board has voted to endorse Tim Nader in his applications for a seat on the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of California and to the San Diego Superior COurt bench.
Mr. Nader has been practicing law since 1982, and his experience working as a prosecutor and civil litigator has provided him with broad legal experiences and extensive knowledge in criminal, family, and civil law, which will be an asset on the bench. Throughout Mr. Nader’s career, he has demonstrated a strong commitment to diversity by furthering equal opportunity and fairness. As Mayor of Chula Vista, he appointed the most diverse group of commissioners in the city’s history. Mr. Nader is currently on the Southwestern College board, where he has made substantial change for the college by implementing programs such as his current project that promotes education opportunities for immigrant students. He is also heavily involved with the Lawyers Club, for whom he has been one of only five men to serve as a Board member in its 40+year history, and he volunteers with La Raza Lawyers’ project LEAD, which brings legal education to an inner city elementary school with a high immigrant population. Mr. Nader has demonstrated his deep respect for diversity, the law, and equality, both as an attorney and elected official.

KABA-SD Endorses Heather Rosing for California State Bar Board of Trustees

The KABA-SD Board has voted to endorse attorney Heather Rosing in her bid for a position on the California State Bar Board of Trustees. As a trustee and as treasurer of the State Bar, Ms. Rosing has demonstrated her knowledge of State Bar operations and her ability to lead within that organization. As a former president of the San Diego County Bar Association (SDCBA), member of the SDCBA’s Legal Ethics Committee, and leader of the San Diego Lawyer’s Club, Ms. Rosing has also demonstrated her commitment to enhancing access to justice and providing necessary support services for practicing attorneys. The KABA-SD Board embraces Ms. Rosing’s vision for the State Bar Board of Trustees, and is confident that she will continue working to strengthen the legal profession, enhance services to clients, and make positive contributions to the community at large.

KABA-SD Endorses Patricia Lee-Gulley for California State Bar Board of Trustees

The KABA-SD Board has voted to endorse attorney Patricia Lee-Gulley in her bid for a position on the California State Bar Board of Trustees. KABA-SD endorses Ms. Lee-Gulley’s candidacy, not only because her professional qualifications make her a strong candidate, but also because it believes that she will enhance legal, educational, political, and charitable services to the Korean-American community and advance Korean-Americans in the legal profession. Ms. Lee-Gulley’s past and current leadership roles in various bar associations — including the Orange County Bar Association Board (OCBA), the Orange County Women Lawyers Association (OCWLA), and the Orange County Asian American Bar Association (OCAABA) — demonstrate her dedication to promote diversity. The KABA-SD Board believes Ms. Lee-Gulley has the qualifications and commitment to service to be a great trustee, and further believes that she embodies the mission, goals, and aspirations of our organization to promote diversity in the legal profession.

KABA-SD Endorses Erika Hiramatsu for San Diego Superior Court

The KABA-SD Board has voted to endorse Erika Hiramatsu in her application to the San Diego Superior Court bench. Ms. Hiramatsu is an attorney experienced with family law, juvenile dependency, criminal law and civil litigation. She has worked for the Office of the Attorney General for the past 12 years, and the San Diego Daily Transcript recently named her one of the Top Attorneys of 2013 in the municipal/government category. Ms. Hiramatsu has donated extensive time to the bar and community, and the KABA-SD Board is convinced that Ms. Hiramatsu will bring to the bench a strong belief in service to the community and a wealth of knowledge in all areas of the law.

KABA-SD Endorses Judge Lisa Schall for San Diego Superior Court

The KABA-SD Board has voted to endorse Judge Lisa Schall in her bid for re-election to the San Diego Superior Court. Judge Schall has served on the bench for over 28 years, during which time she has demonstrated a commitment to furthering equality of opportunity and fairness to minorities. She has served as a court liaison to various minority communities, including the Native America, Samoan, and African-American communities in San Diego. Judge Schall has also made one of her priorities as a judge to work with the court clerk’s office to identify litigants with English language difficulties and to facilitate the use of family member interpreters or stipulated third-party interpreters in order to alleviate delays and ensure that all people have a fair opportunity to present their cases.
